The Guardian Goddess of Uttarakhand

Located about 15 km from Srinagar (Garhwal) on the Srinagar-Badrinath highway, the temple is easily accessible by road. Surrounded by panoramic views of mountains and rivers, the serene location adds to the temple’s spiritual charm.
Mythological Significance
Dhari Devi is considered the protector of Uttarakhand. According to legend, the upper half of Goddess Kali’s idol is worshipped here, while the lower half is worshipped in Kalimath. Locals believe that the goddess protects the land from natural calamities and disasters.
It is also said that the idol should not be kept under a roof, which is why the deity is always under the open sky.
Unique History
The temple’s history took a significant turn in 2013 during the Uttarakhand floods. On the same day the idol was relocated from its original spot to make way for a dam project, the devastating floods struck. Many locals still believe this was a direct consequence of moving the idol, reinforcing the goddess’s divine power.
After the incident, the idol was respectfully reinstalled at its original location, further strengthening people’s faith.

The best time to visit Dhari Devi Temple is between March and November when the weather is pleasant. During the monsoon season, the river is in full flow, adding to the scenic appeal, but caution is advised due to slippery roads.
