Kalimath Temple – A Divine Retreat

Nestled in the serene laps of the Garhwal Himalayas, Kalimath Temple in Rudraprayag is a sacred destination that attracts thousands of devotees and travelers every year. Known for its mystical aura and spiritual significance, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, the fierce form of Goddess Durga.
The Sacred Legend
According to Hindu mythology, Kalimath is the very place where Goddess Kali killed the demon Raktabija. It is believed that after slaying the demon, Goddess Kali disappeared into the earth at this very spot. Interestingly, unlike other temples, the idol of Kali is not worshipped here openly. Instead, a silver plate is placed to mark the sacred ground where she vanished.
Unique Rituals and Beliefs
The temple holds a unique place among the 108 Shakti Peethas. Devotees offer prayers, but the idol of Goddess Kali is only worshipped once a year on the night of Navratri. On this special occasion, the priests perform secret rituals that are believed to hold immense power. Many visitors come here seeking peace, spiritual upliftment, and blessings.

How to Reach
The temple is located about 13 kilometers from Guptkashi in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is well connected by road, and the nearest major town is Rudraprayag, about 50 kilometers away. From Kalimath village, a short trek takes you to the temple.
