The Mythological Significance
According to Hindu mythology, this is the exact spot where Lord Shiva consumed the venom (halahala) that emerged during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). The poison turned his throat blue, giving him the name “Neelkanth”, meaning “the blue-throated one.”

Best Time to Visit
The temple is open year-round, but the ideal time to visit is between February to June and September to November, avoiding the monsoon season. Mahashivratri and Shrawan month attract large numbers of pilgrims.
