Introduction

Located just a short drive from Vishnuprayag, Joshimath is a famous hill town and a significant pilgrimage site. It is the winter seat of Lord Badri when the Badrinath temple closes during the harsh winters.

Religious Importance

Joshimath is home to one of the four sacred monasteries established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. The Narsimha Temple here, dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s avatar, is a key attraction. It is believed that when the arm of the Narsimha idol falls, the path to Badrinath will be permanently closed.
